JUST IN;Pastor Adeboye steps down as General Overseer for RCCG as he appoints General Overseer

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has appointed a General Overseer for the Redeemed Christian Church
of God in Nigeria. According to the 74 year old clergyman, Pastor Joseph Obayemi, will oversee the affairs of the church here in Nigeria. Obayemi was deputy in charge of Finance and a member of governing council, before his appointment.

Adeboye made the announcement during the church’s annual thanksgiving held at the 3km new auditorium today 7th January 2016.

Pastor J.F Odesola is now the church's Secretary while Pastor J.A. Adeyokunnu is the new Treasurer. Present at the thanksgiving service were Vice President Yemi Osibajo and other Senior Pastors of the Church.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye was appointed the General Overseer of the Church in 1981, taking over from late Papa Akindayomi.
This comes almost a year after the revered pastor surprised ambitious ministers waiting for his resignation so they can take over. “There is no death in my eyes at all,” he told them at the ministers’ conference held days after his 74th birthday.
He continued, “Anybody who wants to go in anger in future, is hereby advised to leave now because you may not like the one who would succeed me and if you wait till then to leave, it may adversely affect your destiny then.”
Now, Adeboye reportedly appointed Obayemi during a ministers Thanksgiving service held Saturday morning.
It is true [that Obayemi has been named]. But Pastor Adeboye has not retired. He will still be in charge of the Holy Ghost service and other major church services, but Pastor Obayemi will lead the RCCG in Nigeria,” a source told pressmen, confirming the update.
